**POSITION OF SENIOR SOCIAL WORK EXECUTIVE/COUNSELLOR**

**Primary Objectives of Position**

Sikh Welfare Council (SIWEC) is looking for an experienced and dynamic Senior Social Work Executive/ Counsellor:

- 1. To function as Co-Lead of the Family Support programme, work with SIWEC Secretariat team on financial assistance, psycho-social and other interventions to improve the well-being of all clients and their dependents or caregivers.

2. To provide casework and counselling services to clients, and run social support programmes and mental health support to the following target groups:
a. Families, children and individuals in the Family, Education & Eldercare support programmes

b. Seniors and families requiring psycho-social, emotional and grief support

c. Family members of incarcerated individuals requiring financial and related assistance

d. Victims of domestic violence, abuse and/or bullying at school or workplaces

e. Individuals seeking help for mental health support and services

3. To function as the Secretariat Lead for SIWEC’s Mental Wellness Support Programme in the areas of outreach, volunteer recruitment, training and coordinating with community partners.

4. To manage the 24-hour helpline on a rotational basis, as member of SIWEC’s Ops response team.

**Responsibilities**:
**1. Family Support Programme (Co-Lead)**

a. Work with fellow Social Work Executive to conduct assessments for intake to qualify individuals or families for monthly Financial Assistance & Food Rations, psychological/emotional support or education support - under relevant SIWEC programmes.

b. Ensure comprehensive documentation of all cases whilst safeguarding confidentiality and data-integrity for all online platforms/ shared drives and documents where relevant information is uploaded, stored or distributed.

c. Counsel and conduct financial assessments of clients and their families, including home or work-site visits as required.

d. Prepare cases for approval at monthly Client Review Meetings, in close consultation with SIWEC EXCO Members

e. Refer clients to relevant social service agencies (SSAs) for specialised services which SIWEC does not presently provide.

f. Deal with distress calls to SIWEC helpline in relation to domestic violence, abuse or suicide ideation, and bereavement.

**2. Mental Wellness Support Programme Development & Volunteer Engagement**

a. Lead and coordinate SIWEC’s in-house mental-health initiative as Secretariat team member supporting the work of the Mental Wellness Support.

b. Work with volunteer counsellors and psychologists to plan, implement and evaluate training and awareness programmes on mental health support, suicide awareness and prevention, and dealing with domestic violence and abuse.

c. Plan and implement community mental health education for youth, children, parents and seniors (during community outreach events) in collaboration with like-minded institutional partners like Silver Ribbon, Samaritans of Singapore, Singapore Khalsa Association (SKA), Young Sikh Association (YSA) and others.

**3. Administrative Functions**

a. Provide timely information, update and compile data for SIWEC monthly meetings and periodic 6-monthly reports for SIWEC Council meetings.

b. Maintain database of volunteers and community partners, rosters of all volunteers’ training and outreach commitments, including identifying them for training, conferences and awards.

**4. Bereavement Support**

a. Support bereaved families / individuals with grief counselling support (pre, during and after funeral, in specific cases requiring sustained follow-up e.g. suicides, traumatic death etc).

**5. Community Engagement**

a. Organise outreach activities in the community to promote SIWEC’s services e.g. SIWEC Welfare days at community touchpoints

b. Parent Education & Family Bonding Camps/Activities

c. Support Team SIWEC engagement activities e.g. in fund-raising, volunteer appreciation and scheduled special events.

**6. Children’s Homes & Long-Term Care Institutions**

a. Accompany and support Welfare Officer to visit /engage residents of the home(s).

b. Ensure the residents’ psycho/social/educational needs are met

c. Liaising with the homes to bridge gaps in service. (e.g. cultural/ language issues).

**7. Other Responsibilities**

a. Represent SIWEC at forums related to mental health, domestic violence & suicide prevention.

b. Monitor statistics, emerging social issues, trends and needs in the community.

c. Manage the 24 hour helpline on rotational basis when rostered.

d. Guide bereaved families on administrative requirements for funeral/cremations.

e. Work after office hours and on public holidays and weekends when required e.g. for community outreach and fund-raising events, or client-related response activation at short notice.

f. Undertake other responsibilities for achieving the aims of SIWEC as assigned by the Manager.

**Required Competencies**
