**Overview**:
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will focus as the first point of contact, for our contract manufacturers to assist in manufacturing of Veeco equipment. In addition, provide support for supplier quality, work with Veeco purchasing to identify, evaluate, and qualify key suppliers.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work closely with design engineering to implement new designs into manufacturing as part of the product life cycle (PLC) process.
- Work closely with contract Manufacturers to transition new product platforms into production.
- Review Veeco drawings to assure they accurately represent the part(s) and include all dimensions, tolerancing/GDT, and required callouts required to accurately quote and produce the part
- Provide suppliers a technical resource to submit product or process-related questions or production concerns
- Document and maintain Veeco process, documentation, engineering change orders, bills of material, product tables, and system logs. Review process documentation with internal stakeholders to get feedback/suggestions prior to release
- Implementation of ECR/ECO’s to address process, design or supplier concerns. Assure ECO’s are completed accurately timely manner
- Create quality planning documents to support manufacturing including PFMEA, flow charts, quality control plans, and measurement analysis
- Identify the top production or quality issues and lead the team to resolve internal manufacturing issues or issues/concerns raised by external suppliers
- Utilize structured (8D) problem-solving process to identify root cause of problem(s)
- Participate in Process/Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA & DFMEA)
- Recommend and implement actions or changes to improve production methods, equipment performance, lead-time, and quality
- Perform Design for Manufacturing (DFx) reviews.
- Work closely with purchasing on evaluation, selection, and qualification of key suppliers. Assist in supplier evaluations including onsite visits and source inspection
- Evaluate suppliers based on their manufacturing capability and ability to meet product requirements. Assure suppliers have adequate process control, equipment, and trained personnel to meet current and future demand
- Review of supplier First Article Inspection Report documentation and assure that parts meet requirements. Evaluate parts run and document all pilot runs. Report any issues to supplier and assure issues are addressed
- Address supplier quality issues, including issues of non-conforming product. Complete dispositions promptly
- Provide management with status reports for activities relating to contract manufacturer and supplier issues as well as objective reporting.

**Qualifications**:
8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering or related field; or 6 years and a Master’s degree. Equivalent work experience may be considered.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Extensive Experience with 2D/3D modeling software; Solidworks preferred
- Strong background in process control, specifically in machining and various types of welding
- Knowledge of metrology and measurement systems to assure parts meet requirements.
- Knowledge and experience with Vacuum (UHV) and clean room experience highly desirable
- Experience in detailed review and approval of first article reports from suppliers.
- Ability to solve complex problems with a variety of concrete variables through 8D structured problem-solving methods.
- Experience in part cost estimating including knowledge of raw material costs and process labor times
- Experience with ERP systems required; SAP preferred
- Experience with the design and/or manufacture of complex equipment utilizing complex, multi-level BOMs highly desirable
- Experience with systems designs input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software/controls compatibility is preferred
- Practical mindset with strong ability to read and interpret highly technical documents (e.g., schematics,
