
Nurse Manager

The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily nursing operations within the nursing home, ensuring high standards of care, and managing the nursing team. This role includes leadership, clinical guidance, staff management, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of patient care practices. The Nurse Manager plays a key role in enhancing the quality of care, promoting a positive working environment, and ensuring optimal care for residents.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**1. Staff Management and Leadership**:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of nurses and nursing assistants.
- Provide guidance, support, and regular performance evaluations for nursing staff.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels through recruitment, training, and scheduling.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and professional working environment within the nursing team.
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss patient care issues, staff concerns, and other relevant matters.
**2. Clinical Care Oversight**:
- Oversee patient assessments and the development and implementation of care plans.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care to all residents.
- Monitor and evaluate resident health and wellbeing, responding to changes in condition and coordinating appropriate interventions.
- Ensure adherence to best practices, clinical protocols, and care standards in the provision of nursing services.
**3. Quality and Compliance**:
- Ensure compliance with the nursing home’s policies and quality standards, HCSA Act and regulations set by the Ministry of Health.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance programs to maintain a safe and effective clinical environment.
- Address and resolve any issues or deficiencies identified during inspections or audits.
- Promote continuous quality improvement initiatives, focusing on resident outcomes, safety, and satisfaction.
**4. Training and Development**:
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate professional development programs for nursing staff.
- Conduct and/or organize ongoing in-service education sessions to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
- Support the development of nursing staff through mentorship and coaching, ensuring they are up to date with current nursing practices and standards.
**5. Resident and Family Relations**:
- Maintain open communication with residents, families, and other healthcare providers regarding the care plan, progress, and any changes in condition.
- Resolve any concerns or issues raised by residents or family members promptly and professionally.
- Promote a culture of compassion and respect in dealing with residents and their families.
**6. Administrative Duties**:
- Oversee documentation and record-keeping for nursing-related activities in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Review and manage nursing-related policies and procedures to ensure they are current and compliant.
- Ensure proper handling of medical supplies and equipment, including inventory control and proper usage.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and resource allocation for the nursing department.
**7. Collaboration and Communication**:
- Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, therapists and dietitians, to provide comprehensive care to residents.
- Participate in interdepartmental meetings to contribute to the overall operational success of the nursing home.
- Communicate effectively with senior management regarding nursing department goals, performance, and challenges.
**Qualifications & Experience**:
**Education**:
- Valid Registered Nurse practicing certificate issued by Singapore Nursing Board
- Degree in nursing
- Post-registration qualification in clinical nursing (e.g., advanced diploma, post-graduate, post-basic nursing qualification)
- Valid certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
**Experience**:
- Minimum 3 years experience in managing a team and overseeing the delivery of nursing care in a long-term care or similar healthcare setting
- Minimum 8 years experience as a Registered Nurse in nursing homes, inpatient hospice, and/or inpatient wards in both acute and community hospitalsPreferably with experience in geriatric care
**Skills and Competencies**:
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and clinical protocols.
- Proficient in using electronic health records and other clinical documentation systems.
- IT-savvy with the ability to adapt to new technology systems and tools to improve operational efficiency.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and manage time effectively.
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of HCSA Act and MOH regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, from staff to senior management, and with residents and families.
