Unreal Engine Technical Artist

At Bifrost, we are building generative engines that allow users to create and control 3D worlds. Our goal is to empower everyone to create limitless 3D worlds and images. Our tool has enabled users to achieve incredible capabilities such as autonomously landing spacecraft on Mars, detecting pirates in the Atlantic Ocean, mapping the world from space, and generating synthetic data to train AI systems 10 times faster.

**Unreal Engine Technical Artist (1 month contract/freelance) - Remote/Hybrid**:
Real-time graphics are powering the world of interactive entertainment and are now available for other industries including AI. It is now standard to create high quality graphic content that render vast open worlds and for enterprise leaders to quickly deliver high-fidelity interactive experiences in real time. With the evolution and the complexity of real-time rendering, it has never been so critical to bridge the gap between art and code to deliver exceptional results. This is where Technical Artists comes in.

**Your Main Quest**:

- Improve render visual quality in UE: setup realistic lighting, render settings, camera settings to work in Lumen and Pathtracing within all the scenarii of our production
- Create light rig for turntables in UE and Blender, ensuring consistency between the 2 platforms.
- Create a unified shader/principled shader that translates over UE and Blender to render any type of material.

**Qualifications**:

- 4 years of experience using UE with a focus on rendering/film/static images rather than gameplay.
- Experience we are looking for:

- Prior experience as a lighting/shading artist on a AAA Game
- Prior experience working on photorealistic projects in games/Architectural visualization/films
- Essential Technical skills:

- Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine: Blueprints, materials, level streaming, automating tasks
- Rendering/Lighting: understanding the various render techniques, the quirks and tricks of real-time rendering for large environments, optimize renders, adjust project graphics settings (including all console commands to setup ray tracing, shadows, culling, LODs)
- Optimization: improve performance by optimizing the 3D worlds/assets created by the 3D team, reduce scene complexity, develop content guidelines and workflows to ensure best practices, analyze content using profiling tools and/or spreadsheets to find ways to optimize memory and performance.
- Good knowledge of 3D creation and pipeline:

- Understanding of asset creation: modelling, surfacing, uvs, texture pipeline.
- Experience with 3D creation content apps such as Blender or Houdini
- Soft skills
- Communication skills are key as you’ll always work in collaboration with the 3D team to understand their needs. You’ll also work closely with the engineering team using the content created in UE, making sure their requirements are fulfilled.
- Proactivity: with the evolution of tools, we need to keep up with technology and you’ll have to bring in new ideas, try new tools and formats such as USD and Omniverse.

**Bonus**:

- Experience using Houdini Engine in UE
- Animation or VFX experience.
- Personal projects like making a game or short film
- Knowledge of Unity
