A Junior Medical Technologist is responsible for delivery of patients’ service in the work area in a
personalised, specialised and cost-effective way in accordance to established hospital policies,
procedures and standard of practices.
Job Responsibilities
- To co-operate with doctors, nurses and other health-care providers in smooth delivery of
services to patients.
- To demonstrate basic skills and knowledge in the delivery of services to patients.
- To carry out Paediatric Urology investigations and Paediatric Surgery Outpatient Day Procedures.
- Paediatric Urology Investigations include Simple Urodynamics Study with or without
Sedation, Complex Urodynamics Study (including Video UDS, EMG) with or without sedation,
Uroflow studies, Residual Urine Measurement, Biofeedback Therapy, 4 Hour Voiding
Observation, Stool Management Programme and Urotherapy.
- Paediatric Surgery Outpatient Day Procedures include, change of Gastrostomy tube/button,
Rectal washout and Clean Intermittent Catheterisation (CIC).
- To perform charging for the above-mentioned investigations immediately, post procedures
- To schedule for sedation team and/or anaesthetic team support for above mentioned
investigations and procedures that may require sedation or general anaesthesia as requested by
team doctors.
- To schedule, actualise and perform charging of patient’s admission before and after Urodynamics
Study and/or other procedures requiring admission.
- To check and calibrate equipment and instruments to ensure that they are in good working
condition.
- To set up the machine for above mentioned investigations/procedures when required
- To perform Uroflowmetry studies and Residual Urine measurements as requested by doctors
according to hospital standards of operation.
- To provide appropriate instructions to patient for follow-up review/procedures at Specialist
Clinic.
To provide patient / family members on information regarding above mentioned investigations
and procedures.
- To compile the data generated from the studies into computer and report results for doctor to
verify.
- To ensure reports are ready for dispatch to clinics/wards within stipulated time frame.
- To be responsible in proper filing of patients’ reports for easy retrieval.
- To ensure appropriate and timely electronic documentation of investigations and procedures.
- To educate and instruct patient and family on filling up Bedwetting Questionnaire, Bladder Diary,
measurements of urine, spillage.
- To demonstrate proper and economical usage of consumables and supplies
- To ensure that stock level on supplies and consumables are adequately maintained and
replenished.
- To maintain and demonstrate proper use and care of equipment.
- To maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- To attend to patients’ feedback /enquiry, perform service recovery and provide information
when appropriate.
- To be responsible for Paediatric Surgery Urology Hotline handphone for communication with
patients/parents and colleagues.
- To attend to telephone enquiries / calls and trace results when requested.
- To participate in service quality / improvement activities / program.
- To assume additional responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Requirements
- Diploma in Medical Science / Biotechnology.
- Preferably 1-2 years of related work experience in clinical service.
- Competent in computer literacy.
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
