[What the role is]

You will be part of a team of marine professionals to review new ship designs and plans for ships using alternative fuel / zero carbon emission technology to meet national and/or international requirements and ship’s operating profiles. Other duties include the development of international shipping conventions and regulations of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) including the SOLAS and MARPOL Convention, development and updating of the national shipping regulations to give effect to international Conventions that Singapore is signatory to, and implementation of technical polices on ships.

[What you will be working on]

The key responsibilities include:

- Review of new ship designs and plans to ensure the ship design meet national and/or international requirements and ship’s operating profiles.
- Monitor, draft and promulgate any changes in the regulations and new resolutions to the IMO Conventions related to safety of ships and pollution prevention
- Formulate policies and issue national legislation and guidance, which will assist in the implementation and enforcement of safety and pollution prevention related matters associated with the various international conventions and protocols to which Singapore is party to.
- Participate in IMO committee and subcommittee meetings as Subject Matter Expert to contribute in the technical developments on the international arena
- Issuance of administrative instructions to Recognised Organisations (RO) to implement applicable international rules and regulations as well as developing and disseminating any interpretative national regulations that may be needed
- Responsible for assessing and monitoring the RO and any nominated surveyors who are performing surveys and certification on behalf of MPA.
- Update and revise any relevant policies adopted as necessary.
