**Job overview**

To undertake a variety of marine consultancy services including, marine casualty investigation, expert witness and litigation support, vessel inspections and desktop consultancy projects to our varied client base which includes P&I Clubs, Hull & Machinery and Property Underwriters, Admiralty Lawyers etc, salvage & wreck removal. Our consultants/surveyors are also involved in damage surveys, warranty, liability, cargo, offshore project work, bunker fuel disputes and other general consultancy as well as contributing to the development of ABL Maritime Team and wider Group.

**Overall Responsibilities**:

- To attend casualties and determine nature, extent and cause of damage,
- To prepare technically accurate and timely reports as required.
- Assist in providing expert witness opinion, both written and potentially at court or arbitration.
- Assist the maritime team in developing business with P&I Clubs, H&M insurers, ship owners, technical managers, charterers, law firms, ports, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure all operations are conducted in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures, and policies
- Estimate costs of repairs and subsequently compile reports for clients
- Responsible for delivery of quality documents within a timeline established by management and clients
- Liaise with clients to ensure project completion and customer satisfaction
- Assist to QA deliverables and ensure quality of product
- And other duties as assigned

**Requirements**:

- Master Mariner (STCW Class 1 COC) from container and/or bulk (wet and dry) shipping experience with a minimum of 5 years command experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a good command of written and spoken English, other additional languages both spoken and/or written are beneficial.
- Accurate reporting and the ability to deliver high quality work on time
- Highly motivated, well organized and self-directed individual with strong business/commercial skills.
- Good decision-making capability with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgement and strong operational focus
- Effective time management skills including an ability deal effectively with multiples issues and assignments simultaneously.
- Flexibility towards working hours.
- Willingness to travel (including offshore) and work within a variety of time zones

**Other Beneficial Experience/Qualifications**:

- Previous experience in surveying or marine consultancy services would be advantageous.
- Experience in Technical Ship Management, Pilot, Vessel Operations, Auditing, Class Surveying would be beneficial.
- Previous experience working with clients from Marine Insurance and Admiralty Law.
- OVID and/or CMID surveyor qualifications
- Conversant with marine and engineering consultancy to the maritime and offshore oil and gas markets.
