ResMed’s Textile Centre of Excellence is looking for a motivated Textile Laboratory Technician to join a high performing team, which is dedicated to the research & development of têxtiles for medical devices.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support and collaborate with a group of engineers, designers and inventors to bring innovative medical products into production on a mass scale.

Let’s talk about the role

The primary role of Textile Laboratory Technician is to perform mechanical and physical testing of têxtiles to determine material properties and performance. Furthermore, to compile, analyse and summarise the test results in order to provide technical feedback to Research and Development (R&D).

The position is responsible for managing the maintenance and calibration of all the laboratory test equipment. Ensuring safe work practices are followed in the laboratory at all times and conducting engineering staff inductions to the laboratory, and conducting equipment training as required.

Let’s talk you and requirements:

- Perform physical, mechanical and chemical testing of yarn, fabric and softgood samples to determine performance properties.
- Perform analysis and summarise test results. Communicate the interpretation of test results effectively through excellent written and verbal communication.
- Perform têxtile testing for primarily têxtile research and product development (including verification testing), and also to support manufacturing investigations and quality issues.
- Test to applicable international standards (ASTM, ISO, DIN, etc.) and ResMed-specific protocols.
- Develop, review, perform and validate test protocols and laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure safe work practices are followed in the laboratory at all times.
- Manage the maintenance, calibration and send-for-repair of test equipment
- Manage work requests from internal customers for testing samples.
- Perform the required daily, weekly, monthly checks on equipment.
- Keep inventory and ensure traceability of tested samples.
- Ensure safe and correct work practices and personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
- Perform engineering staff inductions to the laboratory and conduct training as required.
- Support for research and development work.

Let’s talk about Qualifications and Experience

Required:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Engineering or related discipline.
- Knowledge of têxtile testing methods
- Self-management of tasks and the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Team player, open communicator and collaborator

Preferred:

- Experience performing physical testing of têxtiles
- Knowledge of ASTM and ISO test standards.
- Experience in development of test protocols.
- Knowledge of statistics for sampling requirements.
- 5 years’ experience in a test lab
