- The HOD will serve as the Deputy Chair of the TMC Academic Board (AB).
- The key role of the Deputy Chair of Academic Board (DyAB) shall be to chair Academic Board meetings in the absence of the Chair. The DyAB shall at all times stay abreast of all matters coming before the Board for discussion or approval.
- By way of delegation by the AB, the DyAB may review and approve routine matters such as selection and deployment of new academic positions between AB meetings (a.k.a. off-session),
- Responsible for ensuring that due process is followed within the Academic Division in accordance with the governance model approved by the COO and Academic Board. This encompasses the monitoring, reviewing and revising of the Academic Division’s policies and their related procedures and, where changes are required, ensuring that they are approved by the Academic Board.
- The DyAB works closely with the manager of Academic Board in the preparation of Academic Board agendas, papers (as required), minutes, Chairperson’s briefing paper as well as sending out action memorandum and for ensuring that action is completed within a timely manner in relation to the schedule of Board meetings.
- Responsible for matters relating to proposals for new courses, course changes, course name changes ensuring that the relevant documents required by CPE are changed and referred to CPE for approval. This includes the vetting and preparation of the course master document and ensures that it contains all of the information required by CPE.
- Responsible for ensuring that AB decisions which impact the delivery of teaching, assessment and examinations are disseminated to academic and administrative staff for their action and information, as appropriate.
- On operational matters relating to governmental enquiries the DyAB will ensure timely responses to all correspondence and requests for information that relate to the Academic Division.
- The AD is responsible for providing advice on academic and administration matters to the management team and takes part in discussions between partner organizations and the senior management of TMC.
- 2 Management of the Academic Schools
- Manage the performance of the Heads/PICs of the School to ensure that the academic programs of each School are delivered within the resources available and are of the highest academic quality.
- Provide leadership to academic staff in the School.
- Review the Academic Division’s mission statement in conjunction with the goals of the company and prepare operational plans that will deliver the company goals.
- Contribute to TMC management team’s development of strategic plans for the company through the provision of advice and through membership of company committees including the Academic Board (AB), Examination Board (EB) and the Management Review Committee.
- Periodically review the organization of the Academic Division to ensure that there are efficient management practices in the allocation of teaching and administrative workloads.
- Provide leadership to the staff in the Academic Division in quality audits and assessments and, in particular, negotiate with partners where changes are required to the delivery and assessment of courses offered with partners.
- Build partnerships with universities and other institutions as part of the drive to introduce new teaching programs and increase student enrolments.
- Undertake an annual performance assessment of Heads/PICs of Schools and develop key performance indicators for these staff that reflect their responsibilities and meet the goals of the company.
- Ensure that the Heads/PICs of Schools provide adequate training for all new academic staff in the Schools.
- Provide advice to the Management Team on resources necessary for the delivery of teaching and academic administration. For example, to scope out the IT support (software and hardware) that are required for the delivery of teaching and student services.
- 3 Course Management
- Chair the _Deans and Heads _meetings with the Heads/PICs of Schools to discuss the management of the schools and the delivery of teaching and the assessment of courses offered by TMC.
- Monitor pass and fail rates in the programs offered at TMC and develop strategies to improve the performance of students.
- Review teaching methods in the disciplines offered at TMC and in conjunction with the senior academic staff in these disciplines to improve the delivery of teaching.
- Initiate programs to assist staff improve their teaching and scholarship skills.
- Monitor the drop-out-rate, uncover the reasons for student drop out and take appropriate actions to reduce drop-out-rate.
- Monitor the student progression rate, analyse reasons for the low progression rate and take appropriate actions to improve the progression rate.
- Teaching and Project/Dissertation Supervision
- Will be required to teach, supervise projects/dissertations and marking of assessments.
