The merger of Aviva Singapore and Singlife was announced in September 2020 and created one of the largest homegrown financial services companies in Singapore in a deal valued at S$3.2 billion. It was the largest insurance deal in Singapore at the time. Singlife was subsequently acquired by Sumitomo Life in March 2024, one of Japan’s leading life insurers, which valued Singlife at S$4.6 billion, making the transaction one of the largest insurance deals in Southeast Asia.
**Responsibilities**:
- Lead the development and deployment of advanced statistical and predictive models to drive business outcomes.
- Supervise and mentor junior Data Scientists, provide guidance and support in model building, deployment, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand business needs, set project directions, manage timelines, and ensure deliverables meet expectations.
- Design and implement innovative data solutions to enhance business processes through AI/ML integration.
- Conduct experimental designs to attribute value contributions of Data Science models and continuously improve model performance.
- Research and evaluate new tools and technologies to enhance Singlife’s Data Science capabilities.
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous learning within the Data Science team.
**Requirements**:
- Extensive experience with large customer data sets, capable of generating insights from complex analyses and communicating results to stakeholders.
- Track record of building and deploying data science models that deliver measurable value to the business.
- Strong insurance domain knowledge and familiarity with key risks and profit/cost function optimization.
- Can lead and guide budding Data Scientists
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, algorithms, and machine learning methods, including the use of Python and SQL.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Qlik, Tableau, or PowerBI.
- Familiarity with deploying models as a microservice and integrating with backend systems, preferably within AWS components.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Economics, or a related field, with 3-5 years+ of Data Science experience
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Quantitative Analytics, or an equivalent professional qualification is preferred.
