**Duties**:
Works with the AVS ODA Office management and/or management team members across AVS in the development, implementation, and administration of delegation policies, systems, and designee management tools needed to consistently manage the ODA Program across Flight Standards at a national level.
Ensures consistency of FAA audit functions across AVS under the ODA Program through evaluation of ODA holder oversight data and risk-based decision making, development of performance measures and analyzing of data to evaluate the effectiveness of the ODA Office and the ODA Program.
Management provides administrative direction in terms of broadly defined missions or functions. The inspector independently plans, designs, and carries out programs, projects, studies, or other work. The inspector interprets policy and provides guidance to lower-level inspectors on difficult or complex policy interpretations. Work is considered authoritative and is normally accepted without change. Completed work may be reviewed for adherence to FAA policy and for assurance that project requirements have been fulfilled.
The inspector applies a comprehensive knowledge of the appropriate specialization and a broad knowledge of the AVS mission and goals to assigned programs and areas of responsibility.
Leads complex project teams, involving a wide variety of stakeholders. As a project manager the inspector plans and directs the use of time and resources to accomplish organizational objectives. He or she defines, organizes, and uses resources to accomplish work activities within established schedules, analyzes program requirements and accomplishments, and makes or directs adjustments as necessary to address organizational needs.
Contacts are internal and external to the agency. The inspector often represents the agency as an AVS delegation programs specialist, senior point of contact for policy development, or as a trainer/instructor delivering formal training. Contacts vary significantly depending on the purpose of the contacts, the level of authority required to resolve issues, and the nature of the technical or procedural policy problem at hand.

- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
**Qualifications**:
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years; Valid State driver's license; Fluency in the English language; No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and High school diploma or equivalent.
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, and must meet all of the following requirements: 1. Have a good distant vision in each eye and be able to read printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted) without strain; 2. Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); 3. Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others or that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft.
APPLICANTS FOR AVIATION SAFETY INSPECTOR POSITIONS MUST ALSO MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BASED ON THE APPLICABLE SPECIALTY per the OPM Qualification Standard.
**Specialized experience is**: _E_xperience with FAA designee policies and programs impacting general aviation/air carrier pilot operations, aviation pilot training centers, and/or pilot training schools (14 CFR part 121, 135, 141, and/or 142) and experience with inspection, surveillance, and monitoring of air carrier pilot operations, including pilot training programs or pilot training schools. This includes development or overseeing implementation of required operations manuals to ensure compliance with operations programs._
