**The Role**
As part of the global Privacy and Legal teams, you will report to the Chief Privacy Officer and act as both a Privacy Officer and Data Counsel for the business in Asia. Additionally, you will support the Asia sales teams regarding the negotiation of privacy-related aspects of commercial contracts. This role provides the opportunity for an exceptional privacy professional to join a dynamic, in-house legal team at a cutting-edge leading cloud software company and to advance their career by tackling complex data privacy issues. You will provide oversight of privacy program in Asia-Pacific and particularly China, Japan, Korea, India, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.
**What You’ll Do**
- As Regional Privacy Officer, oversee all ongoing activities impacted by applicable privacy laws, including China PIPL, Japan APPI, Korea PIPA, India PDP, etc. including reviewing and updating country privacy websites and assisting in product risk assessments
- Support Asia commercial contracting team in negotiation of privacy terms in customer agreements
- Act as a privacy resource to innovative product and business teams by drafting and negotiating licenses for data inputs and advising on legal requirements for bringing products to market
- Provide training and support to Asia employees for policies and processes related to privacy matters
- Work in close alignment with the Chief Privacy Officer to suggest improvements to Asia privacy program and collaborate with other regional Privacy Officers to provide direction and guidance to the global Privacy team
- Provide legal advice and support in a wide array of special projects and engage external counsel as needed
**Requirements**:
- 5+ years of relevant privacy experience (law firm or in-house) in a similar role
- Privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP/A, etc.) or willingness to certify
- Ability to provide pragmatic and actionable advice by identifying and evaluating legal risks and obligations under privacy laws
- Experience drafting and negotiating privacy and data protection agreements (e.g., DPAs, data use agreements, SCCs, etc.)
- Experience negotiating data licenses and purchases for inputs to data business
- Knowledge of privacy laws, including but not limited to China PIPL, Japan APPI, Korea PIPA, India PDP, etc. as part of a global privacy program and understanding of the entire APAC and Asia region
- Familiarity with healthcare-relevant legislation and standards for the protection of health information and patient and consumer privacy
- Strong academic background, including law degree
- Detail-oriented, analytical thinker with a willingness to learn and who thrives on being part of a high performing team
- Ability to work under pressure, juggle multiple projects with competing deadlines, and adapt to change in a dynamic environment, while maintaining a positive, can-do attitude
- Excellent and effective English language verbal and written communications skills in an international environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and build good working relationships with internal clients that provide a value-add to the company’s business, goals and culture
**Nice to Have**
- Ability to speak and understand multiple regional languages
- Previous experience in a technology, consumer or life sciences company
- Familiarity with global data protection regulations, including EU GDPR, and information security controls such as ISO, SOC 2, etc.
