Senior Automation Manager

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Automation Manager with around 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sector.The role leads the automation software development lifecycle for full-scale bioprocess manufacturing projects-from conceptual and detailed design through commissioning, qualification, and system handover-ensuring solutions are robust, compliant, and aligned with global GMP and data-integrity standards.Key Responsibilities Lead the automation engineering team in delivering end-to-end automation solutions for large-scale GxP-regulated biomanufacturing projects. Manage design, development, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and qualification of Emerson DeltaV DCS systems (Batch & Continuous). Define and implement ISA-88-compliant architectures (Units, Equipment Modules, Phases, Recipes) for standardisation and re-use. Review and approve Functional Design Specifications, Control Narratives, and library templates. Collaborate closely with Process Engineering, CQV, and IT/OT teams to ensure accurate reflection of process intent and seamless integration with MES, data historians, and enterprise systems. Provide leadership on control strategies, alarm management, network design, and cybersecurity in line with ISA/IEC 62443. Supervise and mentor automation engineers and system integrators, managing project schedules, deliverables, and quality objectives. Support validation and documentation per GAMP 5 and cGxP requirements, including change control, deviation, and CAPA management. Drive continuous improvement through risk-based and data-driven approaches to enhance system reliability and performance. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline). 20+ years of hands-on experience in automation design, implementation, and lifecycle management within pharma/biotech facilities. Proven expertise in Emerson DeltaV (Batch, Continuous, and Network), ISA-88, GAMP 5, cGxP, and risk-based validation. Strong understanding of bioprocess operations (Clean Utilities, CIP/SIP, Buffer & Media Prep, Bioreactors, Harvest, Chromatography, Purification). Demonstrated success in leading multi-disciplinary teams and external vendors through all project phases. Excellent analytical and stakeholder-management skills. Experience with system validation, SDLC, regulatory audits, and lifecycle documentation.
