Join to apply for the Commercial Analyst - Trading & Shipping role at Ampol . At Ampol, we believe in the Power of Us – the extraordinary power of people to connect, act, and make a difference. As a leading energy company operating across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States, our work spans fuel supply, energy solutions, convenience retail, infrastructure, trading and shipping. Every role at Ampol plays a part in something bigger – powering progress for our customers, communities, and people. Your career here is yours to shape. We back our people with real opportunities, the tools to grow, and a culture that rewards ownership and initiative. We're building a workplace where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued. About Ampol Trading & Shipping: Our purpose is to power better journeys today and tomorrow. The Trading and Shipping team is key to achieving this, not only supplying our customers' needs today but evolving as the energy transition takes place to supply our customers well into the future. About the role The Commercial Analyst (Cross Bench) plays a critical role in delivering high‐quality market analysis to support trading decisions across Ampol's global Trading & Shipping business. Rather than focusing on a single product, this role provides exposure across the barrel—supporting analysis across crude, refined products, and other commodities as required. The analyst will develop, maintain, and enhance global supply‐demand models, delivering timely, data‐driven insights into market fundamentals. By working closely with traders and commercial teams, the role helps shape trading strategies through structured analysis of evolving market dynamics. The Commercial Analyst will also contribute to the T&S Data Analytics Roadmap, helping to build Ampol's end‐to‐end data and analytics capability and supporting more informed, commercially focused decision‐making. Key responsibilities Fundamental Modelling & Forecasting : Build, maintain and enhance global supply & demand models for crude oil and refined products. Collaborate with the data scientist to enhance models using statistical, econometric and machine learning techniques, and integrating new/alternative datasets. Provide documentation, version control and transparency of models and assumptions. Support Trading Decisions via Timely Actionable Insights : Facilitate discussions on fundamentals to support informed decision‐making. Deliver market insights, scenario analysis and engage with traders and commercial teams to formulate views on market direction and new trade ideas, price dislocations, trading or arbitrage opportunities. Monitor and Analyse Market Trends/Developments : Track and analyse micro and macro trends that may impact physical and financial oil markets, including refinery developments, outages, weather forecasts, sanctions, OPEC+ decisions, feedstock economics, macroeconomic trends and inventory levels. Support the Delivery of T&S Data Analytics Roadmap : Contribute to the data analytics roadmap by collaborating with the Data Product and Data Science teams to build out T&S end‐to‐end data analytics capabilities to drive proactive data‐driven trading discussions and support informed decision‐making. Cross‐Functional Collaboration : Publish weekly‐ and monthly‐market commentary with inputs from other team members. Engage with Trading & Shipping, Strategy, Business Development, and other Ampol functions to share market developments and insights through various platforms and channels. Track competitors' activities in Australia and New Zealand and other relevant geographies through ship tracking and other market intelligence. Support analysis and decision making in response to identified market changes, including product specification changes, contracting, regulatory changes, etc. Qualifications & experience Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline. Minimum of 3‐5 years of market analysis experience, preferably in an oil trading environment. Skills & Knowledge Strong analytical capability and experience. Self‐starter with a drive for results and able to work independently. Excellent communication skills with an ability to engage traders, lead discussions and influence change. Commitment to deliver continuous improvement and enhance existing analysis. Ability to manage complex and technical arguments. High level understanding of business drivers and key areas of influence. Excellent organisational skills, able to prioritise and work in a changing environment. Willingness to share knowledge and guide others in the team. Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast‐paced environment and can work effectively in cross‐functional teams. Excellent Excel skills, VBA, Python and SQL knowledge will be an advantage. Good knowledge of PowerBI or other visualisation tools. Additional Information At Ampol, we're committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. We embrace and celebrate diversity in all its forms, recognizing that it makes our organization stronger. We encourage applications from people of all ages, backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
