Every day, we rise to the challenge to make a difference and here’s how this role will make an impact: Role Summary Integrate various capabilities and expertise of Viatris' interdepartmental operations and personnel in pursuit of a seamless connection between the strategic, operational and tactical levels of site level safety wellbeing. Participate with other key leaders in developing and establishing EHS policies. Supervise and ensure the successful integration of these activities with those of other major organizational segments, thus promoting operational success of Environmental, Health and Safety. Key responsibilities for this role include: Participate in the strategic planning and the development of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and processes within the Company that support the “best work environment” and the effective business operations of Environmental, Health and Safety. Participate in the development, implementation and execution of comprehensive EHS strategies to ensure a safe workplace while ensuring compliance and minimizing liability. Participate in the following supervisory functions within the department as required: Interviewing, hiring, training employees, setting expectations, organizational development, performance management, succession planning, motivating, coaching, and problem resolution. Participate in the planning and forecasting processes for regional business statistics, operational budget and expenses, and capital budget as required. Review departmental business strategy and evaluate possible integration of new industry tools and technology to increase departmental efficiencies and effectiveness concerning health and safety impacts. Participate in the development of health and safety metrics to support the company’s objectives as required. Build and maintain strong, credible relationships with administrators, directors, and other employees to develop, implement, maintain and review appropriate health and safety policies and practices. Drive consistent environmental, health and safety programs and standards across the organization at the site level. Monitor the regulatory landscape to asses impacts and drive control/mitigating measures. Confer with various country, state, local, and federal regulatory agencies and consultants to monitor new developments in the environmental, health and safety arena. Manage the gathering and conduction of assessments, studies, data and analyses concerning health and safety performance for the purpose of the detection of potential hazards, deficiencies, and trends. Make sound recommendation(s) for corrective action or preventive measures. Communicate and endorse environmental, health and safety practices, monitor key performance indicators and visibly participate in promoting environmental, health and safety policies and initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. The minimum qualifications & competencies for this role are: KNOWLEDGE Must possess knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS laws, statutes and regulations. Must possess knowledge of the technical EHS requirements and programs needed for a global company. Must have an understanding of the cultural and national differences as they affect EHS requirements, communications and business practices. Must be proficient with reading and interpreting the Code of Federal Regulations, various Codes of State Regulations and other regulatory standards and advisory criteria. Knowledge of international EHS laws, statutes and regulations is a plus. Knowledge of basic chemistry, chemicals and their properties is preferred. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must possess exceptional leadership skills that encompass visioning, planning, critical thinking and systems thinking, communication, persuading and influencing, problem solving and decision making skills, project management skills and the ability to “fix” and “build” operations/programs/processes. Must possess computer skills and Microsoft Office skills. SUPERVISION Position reports to the Vice President of Global EH&S. Position functions semi-autonomously with direct supervisory responsibilities. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent), or a Master's degree (or equivalent), in health and safety or industrial safety and minimum of 8-10 years of experience in industrial health and safety management . Pharmaceutical operations experience is preferred. Experience working in a highly matrixed, regional environment with direct interactions with regulatory authorities, government and non-government officials, customers and associations. Possess experience within a corporate domain, which involves interaction with and standardization of multiple work sites with varying demographics and regulatory agendas.
