Overview

The Assistant Manager (Costume Technology) leads daily costume and prop operations, including repairs, fabrication, and building projects, while supervising a team of technicians and managing task assignments, rosters, and training. The role involves collaborating with various entertainment teams to turn concepts into functional builds, overseeing vendor projects, managing inventory and documentation for audit compliance, and supporting budget tracking. The role also ensures adherence to safety standards and assists with broader operational tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily technical operations, including costume and prop repairs and fabrication.
  • Manage end-to-end build projects, exploring innovative materials and methods to enhance efficiency and creativity.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of technicians in fabrication techniques, backstage protocols, and safe equipment usage.
  • Assign tasks, manage staff rosters to support daily operations and resort-wide events, conduct performance reviews, and drive skill development through training and internal knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate closely with creative, operational, and production teams to translate concepts into functional builds.
  • Oversee projects such as new productions and vendor-managed items—including puppets, wearable props, and intricate costumes—ensuring timely delivery within budget and safety standards.
  • Support the Senior Manager in tracking budgets, materials, and project progress.
  • Manage inventory and supplies, and maintain accurate documentation for SOPs, fabrication specifications, inspection reports, and risk assessment records to meet ISO audit requirements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) policies and contribute to risk mitigation efforts.
  • Assist in any other managerial/operational tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in costume or prop fabrication for theatrical, film, theme park, or entertainment settings.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory position.

Required Skills

  • Excellent project, budget, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of costume etiquette including backstage and fitting protocols.
  • Proficiency in hands-on fabrication: sculpting, molding, painting, sewing, foam/latex work, basic electronic and mechanical work.
  • Good/Some understanding of wearable technology principles and backstage safety standards.
  • Open to learn and explore new technology/tools such as 3D modelling/printing, and programmable microcontroller.
  • Good physical stamina and resilience, and able to assist with lifting of mascots and costume parts of up to 10kg.
  • Able to research and propose new technology, tools or materials that enhance creative possibilities or operational efficiency.
  • Able to perform shift work, and willing to work during evenings, weekends and public holidays.
  • Able to stand for long hours and work in an environment where there can be hot, humid and wet weather.
