We're an IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) World School, a Cambridge International School and an IBDP School. All teaching positions require a high proficiency in spoken and written English, a degree, teaching qualifications and ICT literacy.
Role:
The Teacher Librarian is responsible for developing and maintaining a positive, inclusive library environment that inspires a love of reading and lifelong learning in students. By working closely with teachers and school leadership, the Teacher Librarian ensures that library resources support the curriculum, enhances students' research skills, and promotes academic honesty. The role also includes organising library-related events, collaborating with external organisations, and engaging families in supporting their children's literacy development. The Teacher Librarian plays a key role in creating a dynamic learning space that contributes to the overall educational experience of the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support & Engagement:
- Inspire a love for reading in all students through a well-structured reading programme and library initiatives, including a dedicated 30-minute weekly session with each class every week.
- Facilitate independent learning by fostering research and information literacy skills in students.
- Promote academic honesty through targeted workshops and student mentoring.
- Teach primary students how to use National Library Board (NLB) databases to look for resources to support their research and learning.
- Assist students in gathering resources and structuring research for the PYP Exhibition.
- Run book clubs to engage students in literacy-based activities.
Library & Resource Management:
- Organise and maintain the library's physical and digital resources using appropriate cataloguing systems.
- Take ownership of generating purchase requirements in line with the budget, in collaboration with teachers, Grade Coordinators, Literacy Coordinator and the Leadership Team.
Teacher Collaboration & Curriculum Support:
- Assist Grade Coordinators in identifying and procuring relevant resources to support the curriculum.
Professional Development & Meetings:
- Attend IB collaborative planning meetings to help teachers identify relevant library resources for inquiry-based learning.
- Attend all required professional development sessions as requested by SLT.
- Actively participate in grade-level and department meetings when required, contributing resources and ideas.
Community Engagement & Events:
- Organise author visits, reading competitions, and interactive library events.
- Foster partnerships with external organisations such as NLB to enhance students' learning experiences.
- Organise or contribute to the organisation of at least one annual Parent Partnership Series (PPS) workshop to engage families to engage families in supporting children's reading at home.
- Participate in at least one event committee, contributing to events such as International Day or cultural celebrations.
- Engage in extracurricular activities (CCAs) as per interest or when required.
- Support the extra-curricular life of EC/PS, including contributing to competitions, field trips and other school events.
Student Wellbeing & Safety:
- Adhere to all safeguarding, child protection, emergency, and health & safety policies.
- Maintain an inclusive, safe and engaging library environment.
- Promote efficient resource usage, including paper, electricity, water, and encourage recycling.
Other Responsibilities:
- Keep abreast of IB curriculum developments and establish links with the IB community both locally and regionally.
- Actively promote the IB Leaner Profile attributes and the values of the School.
- Contribute to school marketing efforts by providing success stories, student progress highlights, and classroom photos/videos when requested.
- Support accreditation and audit processes as required by the school.
- Attend curriculum evenings, information evenings, and performances as required.
- Fulfil any other reasonable duties as per the Assistant Principal's (Head of EC/PS) and the Head of School's direction in line with the position.
