Instrumentation and Control Engineer

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our power plant's instrumentation systems.

  • Carry out troubleshooting and corrective action of instrument breakdown or failures to find the root cause and implement a solution to restore normal functionality.
  • Respond to technical queries from operations personnel and provide advice/solutions according to best engineering practice to address issues affecting plant operation.
  • Follow C&I work instructions and propose changes for improvement where necessary.
  • Lead the execution of shutdown works for instrumentation to ensure completion on time.
  • Work closely with various sections to coordinate cross-functional maintenance activities.
  • Perform risk assessments prior to start of work and conduct on-job risk assessments to identify residual risks associated with planned/unplanned work.
  • Monitor spare parts and inventory for critical instrumentation to ensure availability when required, minimizing unplanned outages. Establish new inventory/cataloging as needed and update information to ensure relevance for current operations.
  • Provide technical inputs in full procurement cycles for materials and services where required, addressing all technical requirements to protect company interests.
  • Identify, study, propose, and implement areas for improvement in instrumentation engineering to enhance operations and improve overall equipment reliability.
  • Supervise on-site contractors/additional supplier's C&I technicians/vendors performing site works, reviewing their work procedures and instructions to ensure compliance and achieve highest quality work in a safe manner.
  • Participate actively in relevant meetings, discussions, and initiatives by the team to safeguard company interests.
  • Populate inputs into the Computerized Materials and Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to capture data and history of equipment maintenance activities accurately. Provide inputs to Planning Engineers regarding instrument maintenance activities for consolidation.

Requirements

  • Possess a degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering or Electronics and Electrical Engineering with at least three years of experience in instrumentation or a diploma in the same fields with at least seven years of experience.
  • Proficient in codes and standards for the power plant industry, including BSI, ISO27001, ANSI, IEC, IEEE.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player able to work with all levels of management and multinational staff.
  • Hands-on experience in field instrumentation and sensors of different makes.
  • Proficient in power plant DCS and HMI systems, specifically experience with ABB Advant DCS and GE Alspa DCS an advantage.
  • Proficient in any power plant PLC control system.
  • Proficient in P&ID, loop diagram, process functional flow diagram and familiar with gas turbine/steam turbine operations and protection concepts.
  • Cyber security knowledge in Operation Technology an added advantage.
