Instrumentation and Control Specialist

The Instrumentation and Control Specialist is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our power plant's instrumentation systems.

This involves a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Troubleshooting and corrective action of instrument breakdown or failures to identify and implement solutions to restore normal functionality.
  • Responding to technical queries from operations personnel and providing advice/solutions according to best engineering practice to address issues affecting plant operation.
  • FOLLOWING C&I work instructions and proposing changes for improvement where necessary.
  • Leading the execution of shutdown works for instrumentation to ensure completion on time.
  • Working closely with various sections to coordinate cross-functional maintenance activities.
  • Performing risk assessments prior to start of work and conducting on-job risk assessments to identify residual risks associated with planned/unplanned work.
  • Monitoring spare parts and inventory for critical instrumentation to ensure availability when required, minimizing unplanned outages. Establishing new inventory/cataloging as needed and updating information to ensure relevance for current operations.
  • Providing technical inputs in full procurement cycles for materials and services where required, addressing all technical requirements to protect company interests.
  • Identifying, studying, proposing, and implementing areas for improvement in instrumentation engineering to enhance operations and improve overall equipment reliability.
  • Supervising on-site contractors/additional supplier's C&I technicians/vendors performing site works, reviewing their work procedures and instructions to ensure compliance and achieve highest quality work in a safe manner.
  • Participating actively in relevant meetings, discussions, and initiatives by the team to safeguard company interests.

Requirements:

  • Possess a degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering or Electronics and Electrical Engineering with at least three years of experience in instrumentation or a diploma in the same fields with at least seven years of experience.
  • Proficient in codes and standards for the power plant industry, including BSI, ISO27001, ANSI, IEC, IEEE.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player able to work with all levels of management and multinational staff.
  • Hands-on experience in field instrumentation and sensors of different makes.
  • Proficient in power plant DCS and HMI systems, specifically experience with ABB Advant DCS and GE Alspa DCS an advantage.
  • Proficient in any power plant PLC control system.
  • Proficient in P&ID, loop diagram, process functional flow diagram and familiar with gas turbine/steam turbine operations and protection concepts.
  • Cyber security knowledge in Operation Technology an added advantage.
