The appointee will undertake high quality internationally leading research in the area of behavioural epidemiology within the Population and Global Health Research Programme, aligned with the overarching research strategy of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine).
The appointee will develop and pursue research focused on the behaviourial determinants of chronic disease in Asian populations, leveraging the SG100K longitudinal population cohort study. This unique platform provides comprehensive behavioural, phenotypic, multi-omics data, electronic health record linkage, and prospective outcomes to understand the etiology and pathogenesis of diverse disease outcomes in Asia.
Key Responsibilities
Job Purpose:
- The appointee will conduct high quality research in behavioural epidemiology to understand how diet, physical activity, and other behavioural choices influence health and wellbeing in Asian populations.
- The appointee will engage with large-scale population studies, particularly SG100K, to conduct behavioural epidemiological research focusing on physical activity and nutritional aspects.
- The appointee will undertake teaching and educational responsibilities for medical students and postgraduate research students, including team-based learning and e-learning methods.
- The appointee will contribute to integrating population and global health into the MBBS curriculum and ensuring excellence in these areas.
- The appointee will undertake high quality research activities by sustaining a personal research plan, developing innovative research proposals, managing and undertaking research activities, publishing in international peer-reviewed journals, and reviewing manuscripts and grant applications.
- The appointee will seek competitive grant and collaborative industry funding to develop a sustainable research programme.
- The appointee will contribute to teaching and educational activity at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and develop research projects with faculty members in the field of Population and Global Health.
- The appointee will supervise and mentor junior faculty members and research staff, participate in academic committees, and meet administrative requirements as assigned by the Vice Dean, Research and Dean.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
- MBBS/MD and/or PhD degree(s)
- Relevant postdoctoral or clinical experience
- Significant experience and outstanding record of translational clinical research and teaching with high scientific achievement, productivity, and impact in behavioural epidemiology
- Experience working with behavioural data, particularly physical activity data and dietary data, would be an advantage
- Ability to lead and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work co-operatively with medical and non-medical staff
- Ability to supervise research staff and students
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
- Ability to motivate others
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Experience participating in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training
- Demonstrated ability to develop teams and create networks
- Fully conversant with patient-centred approach to modern medicine and use of new technologies in education and patient care
- Understanding of academic and administrative needs of internationally recognised universities
- Ability to work in and develop teams, and create networks at national and international levels
- Track record of supervising graduate students to successful completion of PhDs
This appointment is at 1.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employment.
