Legal Counsel

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES The purpose of the role is to consistently deliver high quality legal services to the CFD and Stockbroking business of CMC Markets in Singapore and, from time‑to‑time, other businesses within the Asia region. Key responsibilities Report to the Senior Legal Counsel and assist and maintain a close working relationship with the UK Legal Team and wider Global Legal Team. Support the Legal Team and Senior Management team to deliver the objectives of the region. Liaise with the rest of the Global Legal Team to ensure that key knowledge and relevant information is shared. Provide strategic legal advice to the business on a range of matters including marketing material, general commercial contracts, regulatory client disputes and debt collection matters. Assist with the management and review of CMC Markets client legal documents relating to both the CFD and stockbroking business. Work closely with various parts of the business, including: Sales / Partners Teams and the Compliance Team to ensure that business relationships in the introduced/brokered business space are correctly structured and documented in approved jurisdictions. Business Operations Team reviewing responses to client complaints, including assisting with responses or engagement with the relevant external dispute body. Marketing Team assisting with the review and advice on a range of matters such as reviewing or preparing promotional terms, reviewing communications to clients and marketing endeavours in different jurisdictions. Close involvement with a range of stakeholders in relation to various projects undertaken by the business. Ensure that Legal is engaged at the appropriate time to provide timely advice and effective support. Establish effective working relationships with members of the business and external legal providers. Provide legal input as required into group policies and procedures from time to time. KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Essential A mid‑level lawyer in Singapore with 3 to 5 years of Post‑Qualification Experience. Experience and knowledge in local laws. Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate complex legal issues in verbal and written reports. Excellent organisational, analytical and negotiation skills. Ability and desire to work autonomously on a day‑to‑day basis. Willingness to learn and tackle new challenges. Desirable A Singapore qualified lawyer; lawyers from other jurisdictions with extensive experience of Singapore laws and regulations will be considered. General corporate and commercial experience required. Experience in the financial services industry preferred but not essential. CFD and/or stockbroking product knowledge an advantage but not required. Special requirements Current Practising Certificate or proof of qualification. Willingness to travel for business from time to time.
