Role Overview The Staff Backend Engineer in the Customer Experience (CX) team is one of the key roles in the Coupang Play product organization. This role works closely with product designer, product manager, mobile, and quality engineering team to collaboratively produce awesome customer experience. You will design and develop services that serve millions of customers every day. You will lead some key projects with new API development for our key strategic growth areas such as Live Sports streaming experience. Experience in building a highly available and low latency distributed service is essential. What You Will Do Design and own the architecture roadmap of our Live Sports and Discover APIs Develop, support, and improve key backend systems of the Coupang Play with high availability and scalability Formulate scalable and low-latency technical solutions to satisfy product requirements from Product Owner Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team; establish best practices in code quality, system performance, and operational excellence Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals and compliance requirements Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience in server application and system engineering using modern languages Deep expertise in low-latency, high-throughput systems, performance profiling, and cost/performance trade-offs Proficient with modern cloud computing such as AWS or GCP Strong leadership in project planning, execution, code/design reviews, and mentoring engineers Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications Production experience with streaming and its data systems Ability to work with iOS and Android developers to properly integrate and troubleshoot issues with mobile app to API integration Ability to speak and write in English in a professional environment Recruitment Process The exact nature of the recruitment process may vary according to the specific job and may be changed due to scheduling or other circumstances.
