Job Description:
The Technical Operations Director is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance of the vessel fleet. This role oversees technical operations, maintenance strategies, and team leadership to drive continuous improvement and maximize vessel uptime and operational performance.
This position involves developing, implementing, and monitoring the BOA Maintenance Policy in accordance with Class, Flag, and statutory regulations. The Technical Operations Director ensures all vessels comply with ISM, ISPS, and maritime safety standards.
The Director leads planned maintenance systems (PMS) and optimizes schedules to minimize downtime. Key responsibilities include defining, controlling, and reporting on OPEX & CAPEX budgets for technical operations, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or performance, and approving technical purchases, dry-docking budgets, and repair contracts.
Another key responsibility is implementing and overseeing the BOA Fleet Integrity Policy, ensuring vessels meet technical and safety standards. This includes managing Management Inspection Vessel (MIV) operations, coordinating Class surveys, dry-dockings, and major repairs, and leading the Technical Department.
The Technical Operations Director fosters a safety-first culture, ensuring adherence to QHSE policies. This involves mentoring and developing technical staff, ensuring competency and performance standards are met. Additionally, the Director provides detailed technical reports on defects, incidents, maintenance performance, and KPIs, analyzes failure trends, and implements corrective/preventive actions.
Acting as a key point of contact for technical emergencies, the Director develops contingency plans for critical equipment failures.
