The Therapy Assistant (TA) supports the therapists by performing tasks deemed appropriate, as delegated by the supervising therapist(s). These tasks are carried out within the scope of the TA's training, competence, and under appropriate supervision, as defined by the department or institution.
Clinical Responsibilities
Assist in preparing patients before, during, and after therapy sessions.
Prepare and set up the therapy environment, equipment, and any technology-based therapeutic tools.
Clean and sanitize equipment and the therapy space after each session.
Perform other preparatory tasks as required by the department or supervising therapist.
Provide assistance in transferring patients with varying levels of dependence (minimal, moderate, maximum), using appropriate equipment or support as needed.
Monitor patients during therapy activities.
Assist in the implementation of therapy interventions under the direction of the therapist.
Help set up and apply therapeutic modalities, splints, or other devices as directed.
Assist in providing one-on-one therapy interventions under the therapist’s supervision.
Support Home therapy with therapist guidance
Support the therapist in training caregivers on relevant therapy techniques and procedures.
Assist the therapist during group therapy sessions.
Ensure patient safety at all times and follow established safety procedures.
Perform any other clinical tasks as deemed appropriate by the supervising therapist.
Administrative Responsibilities
Clean and maintain therapy equipment according to infection control and hygiene standards.
Assist in the maintenance and minor repairs of therapy equipment.
Monitor and maintain clinic inventory, including equipment and supplies.
Record and verify sales of therapy appliances and consumables.
Distribute patient education materials and clinical supplies.
Assist with audits, including billing, and equipment movement.
Update and maintain the patient scheduling
Assist with data entry and billing tasks in the system.
Assist in transporting patients to and from therapy sessions/ Home therapy admin duties.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department.
Adhere department’s policies and guidelines.
Perform other administrative tasks as required by the department or supervising therapist.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in Therapy preferred
Possess patient-centredness and interpersonal skills
