Overview

As a Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will help to maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps datacenters up and running. This includes monitoring and inspection, performing maintenance, assisting in equipment troubleshooting, enforcing safety and security requirements, and helping develop methods of operating procedures (MOPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

CO+I is the engine that powers Microsoft online services. The team delivers core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft’s services (e.g., Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, Azure). CO+I emphasizes professional development, training, and certifications for its members and operates a global datacenter portfolio to support customers worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned basic tasks (e.g., rounds, building observations, measurements) with varying levels of supervision.
  • Monitor and inspect critical environment-related facility equipment (controls, HVAC, mechanical systems), building and grounds for unsafe or abnormal conditions under supervision.
  • Learn how to operate all systems safely and understand risks associated with these systems.
  • Utilize the internal CMMS to track equipment assets and complete work orders for maintenance.
  • Assist in emergency monitoring and response to abnormal conditions following emergency operating procedures (EOPs) under supervision.
  • Perform various types of maintenance (planned, predictive, corrective) per MOPs and SOPs under supervision where needed.
  • Document tasks and issues for follow-up and escalate as appropriate.
  • Provide escorts for third-party contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, and service providers on site as required by procedures.
  • Follow safety and security requirements (e.g., JHAs, EH&S, toolbox talks) and business processes to perform work safely, with quality and reliability in accordance with applicable laws and Microsoft requirements.
  • Contribute to a culture of inclusion and embody Microsoft values.

Qualifications

  • Required: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
