Commodity Trader Role

The role of a commodity trader is crucial in the market, where they play a vital part in buying and selling commodities to generate revenue for the organization.

The key responsibilities of a commodity trader include:

  • Supporting the Commodities and Forex Trading Team by providing valuable insights and data analysis.
  • Collating pricing information for assigned commodities to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Crafting a framework and live monitoring platform for trading summaries to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Summarizing trading statements from leading exchanges, including the London Metal Exchange, Shanghai Futures Exchange, and Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
  • Preparing relevant trading summary reports to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Conducting basic analysis on reports and statements from the exchanges to identify trends and patterns.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the management team as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Entry-level candidates are welcome to apply, with no prior experience required as training will be provided.
  • Basic knowledge of statistics, currencies, derivatives, and financial instruments is essential.
  • Candidates should demonstrate interest in China, London, and US markets.
  • Bonus: Basic knowledge of Reuters or Bloomberg systems is advantageous.
  • Able to speak/write in English and Mandarin, as communication with clients from China may require language proficiency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with self-motivation and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
