Job Title: Science Laboratory Assistant

The primary objective of this role is to ensure the optimal functioning of science laboratories, collaborating with teachers in preparing and organizing apparatus/materials to facilitate effective science classes.

  • Maintain and oversee 4 science laboratories, ensuring a safe and organized working environment for staff and students.
  • Assist teachers in setting up equipment and materials for science classes, adhering to safety protocols and best practices.
  • Implement secure storage and handling procedures for chemicals and equipment, maintaining accurate records of chemical inventory and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Source relevant educational resources, such as multimedia and activity ideas, from reputable online platforms to support teachers' needs.
  • Liaise with external suppliers to ensure regular maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring seamless operation.
  • Collaborate with the Science department to procure necessary items required by teachers for laboratory activities, including sourcing quotations and providing recommendations.
  • Facilitate communication with teachers to prepare necessary equipment for science practical examinations, performance tasks, workshops, or other science-related events.
  • Provide technical assistance to teachers in troubleshooting equipment issues during lessons, such as data loggers and microscopes.
  • Monitor and maintain an accurate record of science laboratory inventory and consumables, identifying areas for improvement and implementing timely replenishment strategies.

Contribute to the Science department's annual stores verification exercise, collaborating with the Fixed Asset Manager to identify redundant/obsolete stores and recommending disposal procedures.
