Overview Join to apply for the PDO Criminal Defence Traineeship ( ) role at Ministry of Law, Singapore. This traineeship offers exposure to criminal law practice within the public service context. The trainee will develop foundational legal research and analytical skills while supporting the work of the public defenders in delivering criminal defence services to eligible accused persons. The role provides insight into criminal litigation processes, case management, and the unique challenges of criminal defence aid work. The trainee will gain experience in legal writing, case analysis and case management systems. What You Will Be Working On Conduct legal research on criminal law issues, precedents, and procedural matters Assist in drafting legal documents including submissions, applications, and correspondence Provide case support by reviewing case files, organising evidence, and preparing case summaries Shadow public defenders to observe court proceedings and client interactions Support case preparation activities including witness statement analysis and chronology preparation Assist with case management, file management, and knowledge management systems Participate in team discussions on case strategy and legal developments What We Are Looking For A law degree (LLB or Juris Doctor) from a recognised university Strong analytical and research capabilities Excellent written communication skills Attention to detail and ability to work with confidential information Interest in criminal law and public service Ability to work effectively in a team environment Proficiency in legal research databases (e.g., LawNet) and Microsoft Office applications Prior experience through internships, mooting, or legal clinic work would be advantageous but is not essential. Candidates should demonstrate genuine interest in criminal law practice and commitment to supporting access to justice.
