Overview Reporting to the Head of Radiation Oncology, you will provide academic, clinical and administrative leadership in a radiation therapy department. Responsibilities Strategic planning and administration Mentorship for all radiation physicists Leadership for all radiation physicists Radiation safety administration Equipment commissioning and acceptance Professional development, training and orientation in all areas of radiation therapy physics Research and development Education Requirements A postgraduate degree in Medical Physics is preferred. A postgraduate degree in Physics or Engineering is also acceptable. Minimum 15 years of clinical experience required Skills Required Academic Publications in recognized journals Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops. Researches and develops new devices and modalities for improved therapeutic use of radiation. Plans and presents continuing education programs to staff members and radiation medical students, as appropriate. Leadership Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment. Assists in the development of specifications for purchasing and acceptance of a wide range of advanced radiation therapy equipment Demonstrate leadership skills Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organising, prioritising, and scheduling work assignments. Participates in budget planning, and reviews fiscal reports as required; participates in planning for future facility and equipment requirements. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organisation. Oversees and coordinates medical physics services; participates in training, performance evaluation, and performance review as appropriate. Clinical In-depth knowledge and understanding of current radiation therapy principles, methods, procedures, and techniques. Knowledge and understanding of the operational characteristics, usage, and safety parameters of a comprehensive range of radiation therapy equipment and facilities. Ability to design, develop, and modify radiation therapy devices and modalities. Knowledge of radiation safety principles, methods, and procedures Knowledge of regulations, guidelines, and standards for the provision of medical physics/radiation therapy to patients. Advises and consults with medical providers and specialists. Develops implements, oversees, and participates in integrated radiation therapy quality control programs. Participates in the establishment and coordination of broadly based radiation safety programs; consults with external physicians and patients regarding radiation exposure and safety, as requested. Institutional Support & Flexibility Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by Reporting Officer or Department Head. Provide flexible support for cross team initiatives and evolving institutional priorities. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports Relevant computer hardware and software knowledge and skills. Working Conditions Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment. Work environment involves exposure to potentially higher risk materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment as appropriate. (for example, radiation emergencies)There will be occasions where work may need to be completed outside normal working hours including weekends. #J-18808-Ljbffr
