Role
As a Technical Lead Manager and senior research leader in robotics and AI, you will join our R&D team working on novel robotics capabilities impacting real-world applications. You will collaborate with researchers and engineers developing machine learning, reinforcement learning, and foundation models for AI-enabled robotics in robot manipulation, perception, and motion planning. You should have strong coding skills, hands-on robotics interest, and enthusiasm for enhancing robots' capabilities in real environments. Your responsibilities include developing systems for better perception, understanding, and interaction, enabling advanced manipulation and societal tasks. You will lead a team or project, setting directions and driving impactful solutions, working with new technologies and creative problem-solving.
How your work moves the mission forward
Lead R&D on sensor-guided dexterous manipulation for industrial robots.
Design, implement, test, and maintain software features in simulation and real robots to expand manipulation capabilities.
Collaborate with Google DeepMind Robotics, universities, and research labs to translate solutions into real-world applications.
Bring prototypes to practical use with engineering teams and industrial partners.
Document and communicate your work internally and externally.
Set directions and drive solutions for your team or project area.
Work closely with a distributed team across three continents.
Skills to be successful
PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Robotics, or related field.
Proficiency in C++ and/or Python.
Proven leadership and teamwork experience, setting directions and driving solutions.
Experience leading robotic system projects.
Knowledge of robotics and industrial automation.
Motivation for collaboration across partners and teams.
Networking within academic and industrial research communities.
Desirable skills
PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Machine Learning & AI, or similar.
Experience developing full robot application stacks, from algorithms to actuators.
Knowledge in control algorithms, AI, planning, motion control.
Experience in software design for hardware systems or real-time systems using C++.
Expertise in motion control, sensor-based control, trajectory generation, optimization.
Familiarity with robotics simulation and sim-to-real approaches.
Knowledge in motion planning, kinematics, trajectory generation.
Experience with computer vision and dexterous manipulation tasks.
Experience collaborating with academic researchers.
Experience managing large software systems.
