Senior Compliance Manager

Nexus Commodities is a newly founded global commodities hedge fund based in Singapore.
Role Description
The Senior Compliance Manager will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and overseeing the firm’s compliance framework and core policies for a regulated fund manager active in liquid public markets. The role includes managing selected in-house legal matters and engaging external counsel effectively. Candidates must demonstrate strong regulatory fluency with MAS requirements and working knowledge of CFTC/NFA obligations relating to futures and derivatives trading. Success in this role requires a self-starter with the ability to balance robust controls and escalation procedures with sound commercial judgment, ensuring governance supports both compliance and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance program management: Design, implement, and iterate the compliance program commensurate with policy lifecycle management, control testing, and board/management reporting with clear approval and escalation points
Policy ownership: Own and update core policies including Code of Ethics, Compliance Manual, Best Execution, Expense Allocation, Gifts & Entertainment and record keeping; ensure consistent application across the firm
Surveillance and monitoring: Ongoing surveillance over electronic communications (e.g., chats, emails), trade monitoring, personal dealing pre-clearance, gifts/entertainment logs, and other conduct-risk controls; triage alerts and manage remediation and documentation
Regulatory advisory: Track and interpret regulatory developments and guidance from MAS, as well as relevant CFTC/NFA requirements for cross-border marketing, derivatives trading, and reporting; translate changes into actionable policy/process updates and staff briefings
Regulatory filings: Prepare, coordinate, and file applicable regulatory submissions and notifications (e.g., MAS reporting/notifications, CFTC/NFA filings), and maintain accurate regulatory calendars and registers
Training: work with external consultant to deliver targeted compliance training and communications
Incident and escalation management: Define and operate the firm’s incident, breach, and complaints handling processes; chair or coordinate the compliance approval and escalation workflow, ensuring clear RACI and documentation
In-house legal support: Draft, review, and negotiate routine legal documents (e.g., NDAs, vendor contracts, marketing disclaimers, investor communications, side letter terms trackers) and coordinate with external counsel on fund documentation, regulatory advice, and complex matters to optimize cost and turnaround
Investor and due diligence readiness: work with COO and IR to maintain due diligence questionnaires (DDQs); keep track of compliance attestations, registers, and audit trail to meet institutional LP expectations and ongoing ODD reviews
Governance and records: Maintain compliance registers (conflicts, gifts, breaches, complaints, marketing approvals), meeting minutes, and management information packs for internal governance and audit
Qualifications
Education: LL.B./J.D. or equivalent legal degree; admission in Singapore or another common law jurisdiction preferred; additional compliance certifications a plus (e.g., ICA, CAMS)
Experience: 6–10+ years in asset management / hedge fund, fund counsel, or regulatory/compliance roles with demonstrable ownership of compliance programs for institutional investor-facing funds
Regulatory knowledge: Strong working knowledge of MAS requirements for fund managers and CFTC/NFA frameworks impacting fund trading and marketing activities; ability to convert rules into pragmatic policies and controls
