About the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS)

The Climate Transformation Programme (CTP) is a research initiative that aims to develop, inspire, and accelerate knowledge-based solutions to establish a stable climate and environment for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences, and the arts, finance, health, and engineering.

It will translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real-world solutions for Singapore and transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.

Research Clusters
  • Cluster 1: Climate processes and extremes
    This cluster addresses key knowledge gaps in understanding and modeling physical processes and impacts of climate change, with a focus on Singapore and the equatorial SEA region.
  • Cluster 2: Climate and biodiversity
    This cluster assesses climate change effects on biodiversity and carbon sequestration in SEA tropical forests and human-modified landscapes.
  • Cluster 3: Climate mitigation
    This cluster develops mineral and vegetation-based carbon dioxide removal.
  • Cluster 4: Novel engineering solutions for climate impacts
    This cluster explores engineering solutions to adapt to sea-level rise and climate-constrained water resources.
  • Cluster 5: Climate and finance markets
    This cluster measures and prices climate risk in financial markets, designs innovative risk financing solutions to climate change, and quantifies economic impact of climate policies.
  • Cluster 6: Climate and human health
    This cluster predicts future impacts of climate change on human health.
Cross-Cutting Themes
  • Cross Cutting Theme 1: Sustainable societies
    This theme leverages climate research in communication, public opinion, and psychology, and artistic impressions to shape public attitudes and behaviors.
  • Cross Cutting Theme 2: Satellite remote sensing
    This theme maps and monitors the impact and solutions of climate change in SEA.
  • Cross Cutting Theme 3: Artificial intelligence
    This theme better understands climate processes, impacts, and prepares for a resilient future through Machine Learning and AI.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, analyse, and interpret complex datasets employing latest methodologies and tools for accurate and efficient data processing.
  • Engage in close collaboration with experts across diverse disciplines integrating various datasets to enhance understanding of climate transformation.
  • Develop key case studies informing and supporting policy decisions emphasizing practical applications of research findings in risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare research outputs in formats accessible to policymakers, risk stakeholders, and broader community ensuring clear and effective communication of complex scientific information.
  • Presents, publishes, and communicates research results in scientific meetings, scholarly journals, and other relevant platforms contributing to broader scientific discourse.
  • Provides guidance and support to junior team members, students, and research assistants fostering an environment of learning and professional growth.
Job Requirements
  • B.Sc. (for Research Assistant position)/M.Sc. (for Research Associate position)/Ph.D. (for Research Fellow position) in Earth Sciences or another related field.
  • Post-bachelor/post-doctoral experience is an advantage.
  • Track record of publishing research relevant to the position in international recognised journals.
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of independence in research direction and team spirit.
