About the Role
A trade mark examiner plays a crucial role in safeguarding intellectual property rights by reviewing applications to ensure they meet legal requirements for registration. As an examiner, you will work collaboratively with colleagues to examine trade mark applications, formulate and implement national policies, and contribute to Singapore's status as a global hub for intellectual assets.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical skills, sound thinking, and a good understanding of how businesses brand, market, and identify themselves. Key responsibilities include examining trade mark applications, conducting searches for conflicting trade marks, and reviewing descriptions of goods/services against international standards.
Trade mark examiners are expected to communicate effectively with applicants or their representatives on examination outcomes, including raising objections and providing assistance to members of the public with queries related to trade marks.
As a trade mark examiner, you will also take on administrative roles and responsibilities necessary for the proper functioning of the Registry of Trade Marks. With experience and expertise, your professional role will expand to include supervision, mentoring, and coaching responsibilities.
