Airfreight Operations Manager Role Summary:

This key position oversees daily air import and export activities to ensure timely processing and delivery of shipments. To excel in this role, one requires strong leadership skills, effective communication abilities, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities include supervising daily air import and export operations, reviewing shipping documents for accuracy, verifying costing and billing, monitoring team workloads, and ensuring smooth cargo movement through coordination with airlines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and ground handling agents.

  • Ensure timely shipment processing and delivery.
  • Review MAWB, HAWB, permits, and customs declarations for accuracy.
  • Verify costing and billing for correctness.
  • Monitor operational timelines and resource allocation.
  • Liaise with airlines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and ground handling agents.
  • Coordinate warehouse and transport teams for inbound and outbound cargo arrangements.
  • Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and customers on shipment status.
  • Lead a small team of air operations executives to meet performance standards.
  • Evaluate operational issues and client concerns as the first point of escalation.
  • Support the recruitment and development of operational staff.
  • Maintain adherence to internal SOPs and external regulatory guidelines.
  • Analyze and track performance metrics, including KPIs such as delivery timelines, service levels, and cost control.

Qualifications and Skills Required

To succeed in this challenging role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in airfreight operations (import/export), with a minimum of 1-2 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity.
  • Solid knowledge of air cargo procedures, customs clearance, documentation, and Tradenet processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and logistics systems like Tradenet and CCN.
  • Familiarity with bonded warehouse operations, Free Trade Zones, and handling time-sensitive cargo (preferred).
  • IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) certification.
  • Air Cargo Security training or equivalent.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt quickly in a dynamic work environment.
