Boiler Systems Maintenance Technician

\

We are seeking a skilled Boiler Systems Maintenance Technician to join our team in supporting the National Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program. This is a seasonal contract position that requires hands-on boiler operation tasks on maintenance or construction projects, or any combination thereof.

\

The successful candidate will perform tasks under the supervision of the PM Foreman and will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing scheduled Preventative Maintenance on boiler systems: hydronic, hot water heaters, steam HVAC systems and associated equipment. Additionally, they will maintain boiler systems in accordance with provisions of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

Key Responsibilities:

  • \
  • Diagnose, repair, and perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance on boiler systems\
  • Maintain boiler systems in accordance with provisions of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code\
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair station boilers and associated systems, heat exchangers, pumps, controls, air handlers, commercial steam kitchens, and zone valves in all buildings\
  • Inspect all glycol and steam lines for damage\
  • Perform preventive maintenance in accordance with the preventive maintenance program\
  • Monitor, regulate, and repair fuel lines and air adjustments for the boilers\
  • Commission and startup new equipment\
  • Submit reports as required by supervisor\
  • Timely response to emergency service calls during and outside of normal working hours\
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involved\
  • Advise Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements\
  • Accomplish tasking working from Job Plans, verbal information, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, documents, vendor/manufacturer manuals, and applicable specifications and codes\
  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), suggest revisions as needed, and create SOPs as directed\
  • Proactively identify any unsafe conditions or hazards and communicate them effectively\
  • Work directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking\
  • Learn and use computer-based labor, material, and maintenance tracking applications\
  • Comply with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements\

  • Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:\

    • High School diploma or GED\
    • Minimum 4 years' experience in boiler operation and complete hydronic and steam HVAC systems maintenance and repair\
    • Documented experience in construction, repair, and/or maintenance of commercial, residential, and/or industrial facilities' boiler systems\
    • Certificate in Steam Boiler Operation/Maintenance\
    • ASSE 19210 hydronic Heating & Cooling Certificate\
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite\
    • Experience with Maximo or other Computerized Maintenance Management\
    • Valid Driver's License issued in the United States\
    • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods\
    • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica\
    • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer\
    • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF\
    • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position\
    • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position\
