Speech and Language Therapist Role

The primary objective of this role is to develop, manage, and coordinate a comprehensive speech language program for students and trainees with oral communication challenges. This includes evaluating all students and trainees suspected or identified with communication disorders and providing professional support to teachers, parents/caregivers, and other professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consultation: Provide expert input to help clients' understanding of their speech, language, and communication difficulties. Collaborate with teachers, parents/caregivers, and administrators to assist in goal setting, intervention program design, and implementation.
  • Assessment: Conduct screenings, assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up services for students/trainees with speech and language disorders. Measure treatment outcomes and continuously evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
  • Treatment Strategies: Implement intervention programs based on assessment results, planning, and interpretation.
  • Discharge Planning: Document evidence that students have achieved objectives or can no longer benefit from therapy. Recommend alternative services as necessary and provide discharge summaries.
  • Training and Support: Train and mentor teachers, caregivers, and communication partners of individuals with speech, language, communication difficulties. Supervise support personnel.

Job Requirements:

  • Recognized degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college/university.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid practising certificate with Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC). Entry-level candidates welcome, with AHPC supervision and support provided.
