Research Catalyst Expert

The Choksi Research Group at the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is seeking a highly qualified Research Fellow for a core project funded by the Singapore Energy Centre. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing foundational knowledge in understanding the dynamical transformation of catalysts during dry reforming of methane.
The Research Fellow will employ electronic structure calculations, first principles thermodynamics, and microkinetic modelling to gain a deeper understanding of catalytic processes at the molecular scale. This involves performing ab initio calculations for heterogeneous catalysts, using ab initio thermodynamics to determine catalytic structures under working conditions, and calculating reaction rates using microkinetic models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advanced Catalyst Calculations: Perform ab initio calculations for heterogeneous catalysts to understand their properties and behavior.
- Catalyst Stability Analysis: Use ab initio thermodynamics to determine catalytic structures under working conditions, ensuring optimal performance and stability.
- Reaction Rate Modelling: Calculate reaction rates using microkinetic models to predict and optimize catalytic processes.
- Nanoparticle Catalyst Studies: Investigate the stability of nanoparticle catalysts and their applications in various fields.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with PhD students from the Choksi group and undergraduate researchers to advance research goals.
- Technical Communication: Write papers and deliver technical presentations to share research findings with peers and experts.
Job Requirements:
- PhD or Equivalent: A doctoral degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, materials science, or an allied field.
- Post-PhD Experience: Between 0-4 years of post-PhD work experience, with a strong background in quantum mechanical and molecular modelling.
- Quantum Mechanical Modelling: Extensive experience in using packages like VASP and Quantum ESPRESSO, with advanced knowledge of first principle thermodynamics and reaction kinetics modelling.
- Programming Skills: Familiarity with Python and proficiency in working in a Linux-based platform is an asset.
- Intellectual Curiosity: Demonstrated ability to think deeply and creatively, with a passion for scientific inquiry.
- Interpersonal Skills: Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams.
- English Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Independence: Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
Salary: The estimated salary range for this position is SGD $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The exact salary will be determined based on the selected candidate's profile.
