Key Responsibilities:- Drive SMBC's growth in the sustainable finance market by deepening our country and sector level expertise and support for customers.
- Lead initiatives that involve standard developments by conducting research, collecting, and analyzing information and sharing those knowledge and insights with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Proactively expand knowledge in various sustainability areas to identify and advance new product opportunities.
- Develop new opportunities across emerging sustainable finance products, flavors, and markets.
- Support on-the-job training and development of team analysts.
- Contribute to adjacent and complementary initiatives for our external marketing, capacity building, and ESG risk management efforts.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Financial markets experience required, ideally sustainability related.
- Up to 4 years of working experience in research in the fields of sustainable finance, sustainability, climate change, decarbonization strategies, low-carbon transition tech, etc.
- Demonstrated track record in sustainable finance deal origination and/or sustainability research and analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in deal pitching, targeted materials development, and customer engagement.
- Demonstrated contribution to institutional or industry initiatives in sustainability, including project management capabilities.
- Experience in evaluating energy transition technologies, transition finance preferred.
- Strong influencing, collaboration, and stakeholder management qualities, required across multiple departments and countries.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate in a clear and structured manner.
- Desirable experience - Public speaking, carbon markets, nature finance.
- Highly self-motivated and strong interpersonal skills, genuine passion for advancing sustainability efforts.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and challenging status quo with articulation of clear objectives, benefits.
