About the Role

The primary function of this role is to examine trade mark applications to ensure they meet legal requirements for registration. This involves reviewing applications, conducting searches for conflicting marks, and communicating with applicants on examination outcomes.

As a Trade Mark Examiner, you will also contribute to the formulation and implementation of national policies related to trade mark registration, supporting Singapore's status as a global hub for intellectual assets and IP.


Key Responsibilities
  • Examine trade mark applications to determine if they distinctly identify trade origin of relevant goods/services
  • Conduct searches for conflicting trade marks already registered on the national trade mark register
  • Review descriptions of goods/services against international standards for classifying such goods/services

You will communicate with applicants or their representatives on examination outcomes, including raising objections and considering responses where necessary.

Apart from examination, you will assist members of the public with trade mark-related queries and take on administrative roles to support the Registry of Trade Marks.

As you develop in seniority and expertise, your professional role will expand to include supervision, mentoring, and coaching responsibilities.
