Boiler Plant Operator Job Description

The primary goal of this role is to maintain maximum boiler efficiency while ensuring the safe operation of the plant. This involves observing and monitoring boiler plant operations, performing routine maintenance tasks, and supervising or performing chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water.

  • Maintenance Tasks:
  • Adjust, read, and interpret gauges, indicators, and steam flow meters to ensure optimal boiler performance.
  • Monitor boiler plant operations using electronic or pneumatic controls, pressure gauges, and safety devices.
  • Supervise or perform chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water to prevent scaling and corrosion.
  • Perform startup, operation, shutdown, and troubleshooting of utilities such as air compressors, air dryers, cooling towers, DI water plants, steam boilers, thermal oil heaters, and fire protection systems.
  • Monitor and maintain process plant equipment, including pumps, valves, compressors, and conveyor systems.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance of plant equipment in coordination with service providers and superiors.
  • Monitor normal operation of plant equipment and machinery, troubleshoot as necessary, and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure that boiler maintenance programs are followed and carried out as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Safety Analysis and Risk Assessment:
  • Perform job safety analysis, job safety observations, and risk assessments on operation of utilities and maintenance services.
  • Chemical Treatment and Water Management:
  • Able to handle and manage the boiler, including chemical dosage, pre-test of boiler water, and water softener dosage/treatment.
  • Operational Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, packaging, and production timelines.
  • Teamwork and Communication:
  • Able to work effectively with contractors, team members, and superiors, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
