Job Overview

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Trading, the Base Metal Trader will be responsible for sourcing and securing physical supply contracts for aluminium and copper from global producers, smelters, and industrial consumers. This role covers the full trade lifecycle, including procurement, logistics, shipping, documentation, and final delivery. The trader will negotiate favorable commercial terms with counterparties to ensure competitive pricing and efficient execution. Maintaining and growing relationships with key suppliers, customers, and logistics providers is essential.

  • Closely monitor global market trends, pricing movements, and macroeconomic factors affecting base metals.
  • Analyze and manage market and credit risks, monitor inventory levels, and oversee stock positions across warehouses and ports.

The trader will also collaborate with internal teams such as logistics, operations, risk, and finance to ensure smooth trade execution. Additionally, strong negotiation, analytical, and relationship management skills are essential, along with a good understanding of trade finance, Incoterms, and documentation.

Requirements

The ideal candidate holds a degree in Business, Economics, or a related field, with at least five years of experience in physical trading of aluminium, copper, or other base metals. They should have solid knowledge of global markets, trade flows, LME/off-warrant warehousing, logistics, and hedging. Fluency in English is required; Mandarin is a plus for engaging with Chinese counterparties.
