Job Description

The Science Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to teachers in the science department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory management and be able to work effectively in a team environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Prepare the necessary apparatus and materials needed by science teachers before lessons;
  • Label and group items for easy access, turn on necessary IT equipment before teacher is in the class;
  • Assist teachers in supervision of students during lab work;
  • Maintain the equipment and apparatus in the science room;
  • Update inventory list, identify and condemn items which are not of working condition;
  • Collate necessary materials to be purchased and liaise with teachers;
  • Help teachers to buy perishable items for science experiments;
  • Assist science teachers in carrying out science events, registration and collection of forms (if any);
  • Help out with science Head of Department work in the afternoons eg. collation of survey results, typing of simple forms, any other administrative duties as required;
  • Assist with school's safety management measures including managing student crowd control at arrival and dismissal time;
  • Supervise students during unstructured play time during recess.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • At least one year's experience working in a similar job in a primary school;
  • Be conversant in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
Benefits

This is a full-time position, working 6:45am to 3:45pm, Monday to Thursday and 6:45am to 3:15pm on Fridays. Services are not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays. The contract period is 11 months.
