Teaching Role in a Multilingual Environment

La Petite Ecole in Singapore is an international primary school accredited by the French Ministry of National Education and offering a plurilingual educational approach in accordance with the French national curriculum.

The school currently counts around 170 students from N1 to G5, representing diverse linguistic backgrounds.

As a member of the teaching staff, you will be responsible for delivering the French Curriculum to one class of kindergarten or primary school students.

Collaboration is key: you will share the class with your English and Mandarin speaking counterparts, planning the weekly program together.

Monitoring children's learning progression and reporting information to the school director and parents are also essential aspects of this role.

Other tasks include coordinating daily programs with the classroom Teaching Assistant, contributing to pedagogical projects across the school, and supervising morning breaks and/or afternoon breaks as scheduled.

Attendance at team meetings and participation in school events outside of teaching time, such as end-of-year fairs and gardening days, are also expected.

Regular parent-teacher meetings will require liaison with children's parents.

The normal working hours for a full-time position (exclusive of preparation time and meetings) are Monday to Thursday: 8:15am-3:45pm, and Friday: 8:15am-1:00pm.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Holder of the French Diploma in Early Childhood (Titulaire du Diplôme de Professeur des Ecoles) or Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education – Teaching (DECCE-T) or above qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years work experience as a teacher.
  • Fluent in French and English languages.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills to work effectively with the team on common projects and support children with difficulties.
  • Good knowledge of new technologies to work in class and in the team.
  • Flexible and a real team player.
  • Open-minded and able to think creatively.
  • Proactive and dynamic.
  • Willing to develop pedagogical projects, in line with the school yearly project.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Teaching experience in a multilingual environment is preferable.
  • Practical experience of using communication skills through trainings/workshops or projects (drama, discussion sessions/debates…) would be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of English language necessary to communicate with the team and parents.
  • Any additional experience that could be beneficial to the children (e.g., a sport or artistic activity) will be considered.
