Job Title: Avian Breeding and Research Centre Manager

We are seeking an experienced Avian Breeding and Research Centre Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our bird species breeding programme. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic team, building on our conservation efforts and advancing our knowledge of avian biology.

  • Breed birds following a collection plan prioritising species for guest experience and ark population requirements.">
  • Ensure the health, welfare, and proper care of birds by reviewing animal care protocols, monitoring behaviour, and coordinating veterinary care.">
  • Maintain high standards of facility upkeep, including animal habitats and aviaries, ensuring compliance with our organisation's standards.">
  • Develop the capacity of junior team members through supervision, mentoring, and training.">
  • Conduct or assist in research initiatives within the Breeding and Research Centre, contributing to our understanding of avian biology and conservation.">

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • ">
  • A Bachelor's degree in zoology or a related life science discipline.">
  • Substantial experience working as an aviculturist in a zoological or conservation-breeding facility.">
  • Experience with environmental and behavioural requirements of birds.">
  • A good understanding of the five domains of animal welfare.">
  • Experience in bird reproduction requirements, mating opportunities, and health checks on all bird species.">
  • Familiarity with hand-rearing techniques and natural incubation protocols.">
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, with experience in staff training and capacity building an advantage.">
  • Proficiency in computer software, including ZIMS.">
