Service Engineer Job Description

The Service Engineer is responsible for ensuring the optimal operation and maintenance of vessel engines.

  • Understand the situation regarding defects in vessels, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Provide instructions to field workers on how to troubleshoot and repair vessel engines.
  • Collaborate with the head office technology department to resolve technical issues related to vessel engine maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with scheduled maintenance activities to prevent breakdowns and maintain vessel efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of vessel engines to identify potential issues before they become major problems.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan for vessel visit history, documenting key findings and recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform regular health checks on vessel equipment to identify potential issues before they cause problems.
  • Assist with commissioning new vessels and provide technical support to agents and crew members as needed.
  • Deliver technical education and training sessions to ensure agents and crew members are equipped with the necessary skills to operate and maintain vessel engines effectively.
  • Attend engineering meetings and participate in discussions related to vessel engine maintenance and optimization.
  • Support technical departments in conducting on-site tests and providing feedback on results.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Marine Engine Knowledge: Extensive understanding of marine engine systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
  • Performance Testing: Ability to conduct performance testing on vessel engines to evaluate their operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Skilled in identifying and resolving complex technical issues related to vessel engine maintenance.
  • Kubernetes: Familiarity with Kubernetes and its application in vessel engine management.
  • Ships: Experience working with ships and their various systems, including propulsion, steering, and stabilizers.
  • Agile: Ability to work in an agile environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities and requirements.
  • Electrical: Knowledge of electrical systems on ships, including power distribution, control systems, and electrical safety procedures.
  • Reliability: Strong focus on maintaining high levels of reliability in vessel engine operations.
  • Tuning: Experienced in tuning vessel engines for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.
  • Engineering: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Naval Architecture.
