Nurse Manager Role
We are seeking an exceptional Nurse Manager to lead our nursing team and drive excellence in patient care.
Job DescriptionThe successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational workflow, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for service delivery.
- Attend case management rounds and family conferences to ensure appropriate care and needs of patients are met.
- Perform 'on call' duties and appraise staff performance.
- Provide counseling when necessary and undertake teaching and resource roles in nursing practice.
- Supervise and mentor nurses and all personnel involved in nursing care.
- Compile monthly incident and infection statistics as required.
- Verify the accuracy of daily in-patient census.
- Participate actively in organizational meetings.
- Maintain discipline among staff effectively.
The Nurse Manager is also responsible for administrative tasks, including:
- Maintaining best practices and fostering collegiality within the organization.
- Ensuring adherence to the uniform code, punctuality, attendance, and the institute's code of conduct.
- Contributing to improving the work environment through effective communication.
- Conducting performance appraisals in accordance with organizational policy.
- Promoting participation in continuing education and wellness programs for staff.
- Assisting in emergency situations involving patient care.
- Leading monthly ward meetings.
In addition to these primary responsibilities, the Nurse Manager may be tasked with:
- Assisting in setting up and maintaining training facilities and resources.
- Attending and participating in staff meetings and course evaluations and debriefs.
- Participating in committee work.
- Engaging in volunteering activities.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Head of Department.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A degree in nursing recognized by the SNB, or a post-basic qualification.
- Registration with the SNB as a registered nurse.
- Acute hospital or community hospital experience preferred.
- Preferably 5 years of work experience in providing nursing care and in a nursing supervisory function in respect of the provision of nursing care at an inpatient ward of a hospital or nursing home.
- Good public relations and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
