Job Opportunity

The small satellite industry has been expanding rapidly, resulting in the large-scale deployment of small satellite constellations.

This development is transforming global connectivity and serves as a foundation for advancements in distributed sensing architectures.

As these constellations scale into hundreds or thousands of nodes, autonomy becomes essential for managing operations.

A leading research center is seeking a highly motivated researcher with expertise in Autonomous & Intelligent Systems.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct original and impactful research in satellite autonomy, including on-board AI/edge computing, adaptive mission planning, and intelligent collision avoidance.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate proposed techniques using hardware- and software-in-the-loop verification and experimentation setups.
  • Disseminate research findings through high-quality journal and conference publications and contribute to competitive research grant proposals.
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers in the group.
  • Engage actively in project meetings and foster collaboration with academic and industrial partners.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Intelligent Systems or a related field.
  • Strong research background in one or more of the following areas: autonomous systems, on-board AI/edge computing, guidance, navigation and control.
  • Proven track record of high-quality publications in leading journals and conferences.
  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink) and familiarity with AI/ML frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, while also mentoring junior researchers and contributing to team-based projects.
  • Prior experience with satellite systems and deep knowledge of orbital mechanics are advantageous but not mandatory.
