Position: Assistant Manager - Mechanical & Propulsion (Marine Operations)

Job Overview:

The Assistant Manager will be responsible for leading the Mechanical Department, ensuring the effective execution of operational and technical tasks. This role is crucial for the timely completion of various projects within the marine sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Mechanical Department's operations and ensure that all technical processes are executed smoothly.
  • Manage mechanical repairs and conversions for commercial vessels.
  • Ensure that production processes align with customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Delegate projects to supervisors and monitor their progress.
  • Guarantee that all mechanical tasks are completed according to the undocking schedule.
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide necessary feedback.
  • Assess work progress both on-site and in the workshop.
  • Plan manpower requirements for the department.
  • Identify and address training needs for team members.
  • Facilitate staff training and development in ship repair techniques.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Oversee safety audits and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Monitor subcontractor working hours to ensure efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in the shipyard or marine industry is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in areas such as Propulsion, Shaft Alignment, Thrusters, and CPP.
  • Candidates with experience as Chief Engineers on sailing vessels are encouraged to apply.
  • Proven ability to manage teams, customer relations, and project timelines.
  • Familiarity with ship repair and conversion projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle both internal and external customers.
  • Resourceful and adaptable to changes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to innovate and improve work methodologies continuously.
  • Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
  • Willingness to work on vessels and at heights.
