Job Description:

We are seeking a seasoned professional to lead our conservation and community science programs in Singapore. As the Head of Conservation, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to protect critical resources and drive change across government, business, civil society, and local communities.


Your key responsibilities will include leading a team of educators and outreach specialists, designing and implementing flagship education and outreach programs, and managing day-to-day administration of all team activities. You will also oversee staff who manage citizen scientists, youth programs, and public/corporate partnerships.


Working closely with fundraising and public sector partnership teams, you will identify and pursue key sources of funding, partnerships, and grants to support the implementation of our programs. Additionally, you will develop and deliver high-quality science-based content on nature conservation and sustainability, including talks, workshops, training, nature guiding, educational materials, outdoor education, regional field trips, exhibitions, and citizen science surveys.


You will be responsible for monitoring engagement requests from internal teams and external partners, prioritizing and managing a calendar of engagement activities, and coordinating their execution with staff. You will also supervise the team to identify and recruit vendors to ensure high-quality services.


Liaising with schools, tertiary institutions, universities, corporates, public ministries, and other stakeholders, you will train staff, volunteers, students, partners, teachers as needed to ensure they are equipped with knowledge and materials to assist and leverage our education outreach programs/initiatives.


You will provide input for media responses and serve as a media spokesperson when needed, in partnership with the communications team. Furthermore, you will formulate and review long- and short-term strategies and operation plans for the team, including traditional and non-traditional approaches, such as leveraging new and social media to expand educational outreach efforts.


Finally, you will ensure and evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies and recommend renewal plans accordingly. Conceptualizing, budgeting for, monitoring, and implementing existing and new programs will also be part of your responsibilities. Actively collaborating with WWF network and other teams to develop high-value education and engagement projects is crucial.


Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • PhD/Master's degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Geography, or related fields
  • 8-10 years' professional experience in Singapore nature conservation, or related areas, education, and outreach events
  • At least 3 years leading and managing a team
  • Proven success in developing and managing local conservation projects
  • Experience working in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and group facilitation skills
  • Knowledge on local biodiversity, especially native flora and fauna
  • Passion for environmental issues, nature, advocacy, and change
  • Knowledge of the not-for-profit sector is a bonus
