Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting laboratory testing on clinical specimens and reporting results in accordance with laboratory policies and standard operating procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receive, examine, and perform laboratory testing on clinical specimens.
  • Perform PCR, hybridisation, library preparation, next generation sequencing, and advanced genetic laboratory applications.
  • Review results to determine interference, inhibition, or other problems that arise during extraction, amplification, or sequencing of nucleic acids.
  • Perform quality control, validation, and other activities to verify the performance of clinical assays.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and notify supervisors when instruments malfunction.
  • Work closely with supervisors to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance according to established policies and procedures.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and reagents and communicate order needs.
  • Operate computer programs related to equipment and laboratory information systems.
  • Maintain records of test results and archives of data.
  • Promote good clinical practice and a safe working environment in accordance with laboratory safety, staff safety, and patient safety guidelines.
  • Perform laboratory procedures, examinations, and tests according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A diploma in medical laboratory technology or an equivalent qualification.
  • A basic degree in a relevant science subject.
  • Preferably 2-3 years of clinical laboratory experience in molecular genetics, biochemical genetics, or cytogenetics.
  • A keen interest to learn and a positive work attitude.
  • Analytical thinking, good communication, and interpersonal skills.
